(additional registration required)

10:00 am to 4:00pm
Pre-conference Session – CARN Study Day
(Hosted at UCSD, Price Center; Lunch break 12-2pm on your own)

Action Research à la Latinoamericana

This workshop has a two-fold objective. First, it seeks to present the very unique essence, purpose, tools and spirit of Action Research as it is thought about, felt and worked on in some communities throughout Latin America, presenting some experiences from Brazil and Colombia, and placing a special emphasis on the ideas of “popular education”, “experiences systematization”, and “participatory and community methodologies.” Second, the workshop aims to introduce the new “PAR and Popular Education” action research community (ARC) within the Action Research Network of the Americas (ARNA) focusing especially on the potential of this community to bridge participatory research traditions in South and North America.

12:30 pm to 4:00pm
Pre-Conference Session – ARC Workshop
(Hosted at UCSD, Price Center)

Action Research Communities: Planning Together for ARNA’s Future
During the 2015 conference in Toronto, ARNA initiated the formation of action research communities (ARCs) around topics of interest to ARNA members including:

  • early childhood education
  • graduate student research
  • health care
  • participatory action research & popular education
  • school counseling
  • school leadership
  • supporting the teaching of action research
  • youth participatory action research

This workshop invites those conference attendees & members interested in these or other action research topics to come together to share ideas and develop an action plan to guide each ARC in setting its mission, vision, and implementing it’s action plan to support ongoing ARC efforts and initiatives between each annual conference. Members new to ARNA and/or the ARCs are welcome and encouraged to participate.
